Hiking or the Beach?

Kapa'a, HI - January 11, 2016

Usually the big decision is, will this be a hiking day, or a beach day.  So a hiking day will of course involve some planning to scope out the potential hike.  We haven't found a trail that isn't super muddy, and it is this intense red clay that will stain anything.  I guess mud is what is to be expected near the rainiest spot on earth (Mt. Wai'ale'ale in the center of the island is, purportedly, the rainiest location on the planet with 420+ inches of rain annually).  So a few days ago we did a 2-1/2 hour hike along a very steep ridge (knife edge at a couple of spots).

And you meet friends along the way.

And the road, just to get there will usually present some nice sights.

Or if it happens to be a Beach Day, you've got to do the same planning.  Here are shots from our day up at Tunnels Beach (just south of Haena Beach Park, far to the North on the Island).

Or you might pick Donkey Beach.

Or you might find a friend just walking to a nearby beach.

Choices, choices.
